Wolf Run Vineyards

Our Vineyard

Wolf Run Vineyards is located precisely in the middle of Sonoma Valley in Glen Ellen, between Sonoma Hwy. and Warm Springs Road. This ridge top vineyard rests at an average elevation of 450', slightly sloping in a curved southwestern direction. These geographic qualities and the rocky, well draining soils presented a unique opportunity in 1997 to owner Josh Phillips. Cabernet Sauvignon just HAD to be planted. Extensive research and testing led to a planting of St. George rootstock, grafted with Clone 7 Cabernet that delivers a small yield of exceptional fruit. The vineyard is farmed in a sustainable manner and has been designated by Sonoma County as an Agricultural Preserve.

Our Wine

Wolf Run CabernetWolf Run Vineyards was primarily a supplier of high end cabernet fruit to other wineries until 2003 when portions of the harvest were reserved for estate wine. For two years Josh made different styles of 100% cabernet, varying the oak, time on oak, racking and handling methods and degrees of fining. The different vintner techniques were subjected to numerous, very strict and codified tastings to identify the methods best suited for this particular fruit.

As the individual grape is quite small and the cluster very tight, a really intense cabernet is produced, requiring special attention to bring a 100% cabernet sauvignon to the bottle. Although most cabs today are blended to soften tannins for immediate consumption, Wolf Run Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon is not blended, but produced in a manner and with a philosophy that recognizes the unique quality of the fruit.

Vintage 2009 is the first Wolf Run Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon and is presently available in limited quantities. Read more...
